Once considered barren and remote, the Arctic is increasingly seen as accessible and rich with energy and other natural assets. Climate change is shrinking the ice and carving paths through the sea, while Arctic nations, including the United States, Canada, Russia, Denmark and Norway, try to position themselves for opportunities. Yet this cold place, full of untapped potential, promises to be a complex and difficult setting for investment. Whether it is drilling, shipping, construction or tourism, projects won't go up overnight and will likely be bound by environmental rules.
